Each year, FOTP honors the people and organizations who go above and beyond to make Chicago’s parks thrive. From community leaders and volunteers to Chicago Park District staff and advocacy groups, Park Heroes embody the spirit of care, equity, and stewardship that keep our parks open, vibrant, and welcoming.

Who is a Park Hero?

Park Heroes are neighbors, organizers, educators, and leaders who transform our parks daily. They plant gardens, lead programs, fight for equity, and build community—ensuring our parks remain places of joy and connection across Chicago.

Award Categories

  • Stewardship Award – For individuals improving the natural beauty of parks.

  • PAC Award – Honoring Park Advisory Councils making a difference locally.

  • Advocacy Award – Celebrating grassroots leaders and public advocates.

  • Park Programming Award – Recognizing those who enrich parks through events or services.

  • Community Group Award – For organizations strengthening parks and neighborhoods.

  • Outstanding Park District Employee – Honoring Park District staff who go above and beyond.
