For more than 50 years, Friends of the Parks has fought to ensure every Chicagoan has a voice in their parks. That's why we've spent the last year creating the blueprint for the next iteration of our city’s public parks and green spaces—our Park Roots report.

The report will address five key issue areas:

  • Access & Equity

  • Community Involvement

  • Funding & Infrastructure Improvements

  • Housing, Safety & Community Building

  • Lakefront & Park Protection

The report, which will be released in early December, was envisioned to better understand the current park landscape and how it's serving our communities. To do so, we've spent the last year surveying residents, facilitating conversations in neighborhoods on the city’s South, West, and North Sides, and having extensive conversations with leaders at the Chicago Park District. These conversations have connected community leaders and residents across Chicago to unite toward ideas, collaboration, and collective policy strategies.
