“Planting Seeds in Communities - Friends of the Parks ‘Seed Grant Program’ funds Neighborhood
Park Projects”
Friends of the Parks ‘Seed Grant Program’ is
designed to support park groups throughout
Chicago. Over $15,000 in grant funds
are available to advisory councils and
adopt-a-park/preserve groups who need
support for innovative or unfunded projects
in their park.
The purpose of this program is to build stronger communities, develop alliances and
foster success in the work of citizen groups. Projects can range from doing clean-ups
at local parks, having beautification projects through plantings, conducting community-based
outreach or music and art projects. Seed grants have been awarded to parks to help
fund therapeutic recreation programs, a popcorn machine, gymnastic mats, a computer
lab and beautification projects. To see the lists of past winners click
